Lycopene: a red, fat-soluble pigment found in vegetables, and
most commonly found in tomatoes. Carotenoids are naturally
occurring pigments.
The human body does not produce lycopene. A diet rich in
carotenoid-containing foods is associated with a variety of health
benefits.
Once lycopene is absorbed, it is deposited widely in the liver,
lungs, prostate gland, colon, and skin. Working as a powerful
antioxidant, it fights free radicals (highly reactive molecules that
damage cell membranes, attack DNA, and cause disease).
Studies have found patients with HIV infection, inflammatory
diseases, and high cholesterol levels (with and without
lipid-lowering treatment) may have depleted lycopene serum
(blood) levels. lycopene is not usually reduced by smoking or
alcohol, but rather by increasing age.
Lycopene and Cardiovascular Disease:
In its role as an antioxidant, it prevents the oxidation of
low-density liproprotein (LDH), the "bad" cholesterol that leads to
atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and coronary artery
disease. As serum lycopene levels rise, the levels of oxidized
lipoprotein, protein, and DNA compounds go down, thus lowering
the risk of heart disease. Individuals with high levels of lycopene
are half as likely to have a heart attack than those with low levels,
according to one study.
Lycopene and Cancer:
Researchers have found strong relationships between lycopene
intake and reduced risk of cancers of the prostate and pancreas.
There is medical evidence suggesting a high intake of
lycopene-rich tomato products is associated with a reduced risk
of developing cancers of the lung, breast, cervix, and
gastrointestinal tract.. In several studies of these cancers,
lycopene was the only carotenoid associated with risk reduction.
In late 2001, the first clinical intervention trial of prostate cancer
patients showed that supplementing with lycopene helped slow
growth of prostate cancer. In fact, the spread of prostate cancer
was reduced by 73%.
Lycopene and Macular Degeneration
Lycopene (as well as other carotenoids such as lutein and
beta-carotene) may also help prevent macular degenerative
disease, the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of
65. Lycopene is the only micronutrient whose serum level was
shown to be inversely related to the risk of age-related macular
degeneration.
During our initial product research and development, several additional
ingredients were found to be substantially beneficial in aid of Breast and
Prostate Cancer, osteoporosis and better cardiovascular support; The
most significant being Magnesium, Lycopene and Vitamin D3. When
researching the available supplements for our first generation, we found
no off the shelf type that contained all the critical components. Our
second generation is being formulated to incorporate only the vitamins
and minerals required while assuring a smooth robust flavor.
The research determines the most suitable and active contents as well
as the dosage and balance for both their individual and cross-functional
contributions, much is temperature and water solubility dictated.
The FDA guidelines for a recommended daily % intake of Lycopene,
based upon a 2000 a day calorie diet, are not determined due continued
research. Lycopene, is the subject of many studies that indicate its
specific aid to Prostate and Breast cancer, data supports 6 - 10 mgs to
be balanced. Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is not water soluble ( as is
Lycopene) and we're working with several reputable manufacturers on
its development for our coffee supplement. This form of D3 is suitable
for all climates, where as you may spend 10 - 20 minutes in the sun and
allow your body to manufacture D3, but, in the NE and NW, that may not
be available on a regular basis, nor would the intensity of the suns rays
be adequate to produce this chemical reaction.
Magnesium, is the most effective aid to calcium absorption known. The
ratio of calcium to magnesium shall be 2: 1 to affect both preventive as
well as rebuilding bone mass.
A manufacturers processing for preserving supplements that won't
break apart during its travels, its time release for dissolving and its
coatings requires a series of brewing trials. With the most common
household coffee pot size being a 4 - 8 cup drip type, the dissolving
must be completed in the least time and lowest possible temperature,
150 F. ( the 150F was determined after using 9 different models of
readily available coffee pots after 36 cycles, thus, we accelerated the
potential of the heating elements degradation averages of the 9 models.
Our testing is based upon process variation management and is
guided by a statistical analysis of 9 batches, both with the selected
vitamin or mineral supplement being placed to the ground coffee and,
ground in with the whole beans. Our Certification is submitted with both
methods for comparative results and determinant of label claim in either
method.
There are several mitigating factors, a primary concern is the deviation
from batch to batch of the manufacturers supply, in both content and
solvency; this is what separates them, and believe me, its like night and
day. To date, the source of our current formula has proven to be the
most consistent and factually documented, Independent of their testing.
A key to all this is validating and verifying the actual end product(s) from
an FDA registered and Independent Consumer Laboratory.
We shall be working with 3 major Organic Fair Trade Coffee sources
along side of other Retail Coffee sources in our next generation.
I sincerely hope I have painted a clear picture as to the significance of
why and what is involved in creating a Certified Product, Integrity.

Vitamin D3
In 2005, scientists released a study which demonstrated a
beneficial correlation between vitamin D intake and prevention of
cancer. Drawing from a meta-analysis of 63 published reports,
the authors showed that intake of an additional 1,000
international units (IU) (or 25 micrograms) of vitamin D daily
reduced an individual's colon cancer risk by 50%, and breast and
ovarian cancer risks by 30%.[36] Research has also shown a
beneficial effect of high levels of calcitriol on patients with
advanced prostate cancer.[37] A study involving 1,200 women,
due to be published in April 2007, reports that vitamin D
supplementation resulted in a 60% reduction in cancer
incidence, during a four-year clinical trial.[38]
Research has also suggested that cancer patients who have
surgery or treatment in the summer — and therefore get more
vitamin D — have a better chance of surviving their cancer than
those who undergo treatment in the winter when they are
exposed to less sunlight.[39]
